Big excitement for WOTRO’s new strategy

2 April 2010

Time for new beginnings! On March 23rd as the bright spring sun appeared on the Dutch sky, WOTRO presented the first draft Strategic Plan (2011-2014). Scientists and policy makers from governmental and non-governemental organisations from the development sector were very pleased for having the opportunity to further optimise WOTRO’s proposed strategic plans.

During the meeting it became clear that WOTRO’s concept strategy paper had been carefully studied by all participants. The discussions between the various stakeholders were very lively at times and always relevant, and they demonstrated that bridge builders between different worlds are very important. The enthusiastic response to the strategy concept and the positive atmosphere on March 23rd showed that WOTRO makes an important contribution in building such bridges and that WOTRO should continue doing so. How? The opinions differ on this matter: scientists plea for more funding, stakeholders for more participation and policy makers for more measurable results. This is a very challenging cocktail to mix, but this day showed that the WOTRO stakeholders support the need to create, share and use scientific knowledge for sustainable development.

A more detailed report of the WOTRO Strategy Meeting will be published soon on www.wotro.nl/strategy. Furthermore, the WOTRO board still invites everybody affiliated to WOTRO to comment on the strategic plans by e-mail. For more information click here.
