Knowledge on the Move: Emerging Agendas for Development-oriented Research
This publication reflects the outcome of a vibrant conference organised by WOTRO, the ISS and Nuffic. Three crosscutting issues formed the basis for discussion: building equal research partnerships, shaping capacity development in the field of research, and embedding research in society to ensure application and valorization of the research outcomes.

Research intended to contribute to development in the South is in crisis. Globalization has changed the concept of development and the nature of North-South research partnerships. Research policies and collaborative practices need urgently to be adapted to produce the knowledge that is required to address new demands and complex processes of change in developing countries. In this book, prominent researchers from both the North and the South explore emerging trends in their fields of research, including trade, migration, human rights, agriculture, climate and governance, as wll as the process of research communication itself. In the last part of this volume, two prominent Dutch politicians, former Minister for Development Cooperation, Jan Pronk, and the current Minister, Bert Koenders, both eminent scholars in their own right, respond to the challenges presented in this book and discuss their policy implications.
