| Apply | : | No, a new round is (still) uncertain |
The STARE programme aims to stimulate groundbreaking research at the interface of informatics and astronomy. The programme offers opportunities for research that has an added value for both disciplines.
Project proposals may concern one or more of the following research themes:
Technology development
- Data handling
- Data storage
- Distributed computing and grids
Interactive data analysis and interpretation
- Visualisation
- Data mining
- Virtual Observatory
See the programme text for more information on the research framework. STARE is the third programme in the I-Science computer science programme cluster.
The other two programmes, VIEW and GLANCE, started early 2005.
Who can apply
Applications can be submitted by researchers from Dutch universities, NWO and KNAW institutes. The application is submitted by one researcher (the main applicant) on behalf of a team consisting of at least one astronomer (member of an astronomical research group). One condition is that there must be a clear substantial input in the research proposal from both groups.
What can be applied for
The applications must total an amount of 500,000 euro. The sum may be used for PhD students, postdocs, (senior) lecturers, technical personnel and programmers, instruments worth between 5,000 and 110,000 euro, travel and accommodation expenses for foreign colleagues and travel expenses not included in the bench fee.
When can be applied
