The evolution of activist images of god(s) and communality of rites
Results 2004
The field of this study is the Sociology of Religion and the Anthropology of
religion. My own background is sociology, and of course, sociological theories
and methods are used in this project. Besides a sociological approach, the
project also contains anthropological elements. The data that has been used in
this project is Murdock’s Standard Sample, which is based on anthropological
descriptions. One of the supervisors is a Professor in Anthropology. He can
help with the interpretation of the anthropological descriptions.
The aim of this project is to provide evolutionary answers to questions about
the relationship of human beings to their god(s) in different stages of
technological development, and test these explanations. The theory to be
developed and applied may be termed ecological-technological evolutionism, an
important macro-theory in contemporary anthropology and sociology. This
evolutionary theory forms the basis of this project.
