ReinFOrcing CompUter Science (FOCUS)

Part of NWO Theme : Digitalisation and Information Technology
Secretariat : EW
Participating NWO Institutes : CWI
Apply : No, the subsidy is closed for applications

Objective
The aim of FOCUS is to search for and train talented informatics researchers. The programme focuses especially on strengthening the middle management active within four themes of the National Research Agenda Informatics (NOAG-i): Algorithms and Formal Methods (AFM), Intelligent Systems (IS), Modelling, Simulation and Visualisation (MSV) and Parallel and Distributed Computing (PDC).

Application

Researchers at Dutch universities, NWO and KNAW institutes. The application is submitted by one researcher (the head applicant) on behalf of a team that consists of researchers from one or more research institutes.

What can be applied for

FOCUS sponsors five relatively large projects (400,000 euro each) with the emphasis on research appointments: 2 or 3-year postdoctorals, (senior) lecturers, technical staff or programmers, project-related equipment, additional travel expenses, travel and accommodation expenses for foreign guest researchers.

Extra Information

FOCUS is the open part of the Bsik programme BRICKS (www.bsik-bricks.nl). This programme aims to give a strong impetus to Dutch fundamental informatics research. Researchers who are awarded a FOCUS subsidy will become part (if they weren’t already) of the BRICKS consortium. Their projects will be added to one of the four BRICK themes.
