EUROCORES

EUROCORES stands for ‘European Science Foundation Collaborative Research Programmes Scheme.´ A EUROCORE is a grant scheme of the European Science Foundation (ESF). The ESF uses this instrument to promote multinational cooperation in Europa. The ESF has 77 members (Member Organisations) from 30 different countries: academies, research organisations and research funding agencies, including NWO.
Subjects for EUROCORES can be submitted to the ESF by researchers themselves, by members, by ESF Standing Committees or by Expert Groups. The ESF works up a potential EUROCORE and puts this before the member organisations. As soon as the proposal is approved by at least 4 organisations from 4 different countries the ESF launches a Call for proposals aimed at researchers. EUROCORES are possible in all scientific disciplines.

NWO participates in EUROCORES because the ESF EUROCORES – just like the ERA-NETs of the European Commission – lead to international cooperation and competition. That offers researchers opportunities for excellence.
