Objective

The Dutch Russian cooperation programme was established in 1992 to give a strong impulse to the scientific collaboration between the two countries. In ten years time the programme has financed over 350 collaborative projects in various scientific fields. The objectives of the programme were:

  • To establish structural long term collaborative relationships in the field of science and technology that are of mutual advantage to both countries;
  • To further the participation of joint Dutch and Russian scientists and research groups in international scientific networks and;
  • To provide young scientists opportunities to advance their careers in an international perspective.

Application

Who can apply

Dutch researchers together with a Russian counterpart. The Dutch researcher had to be connected to one of the Dutch universities.

What can be applied for

The funding opportunities combine models for capacity building, mobility, networking, innovation, integration in European programmes, and a more structural approach for cooperation within centres of excellence.

In the programme 2004-2007 there were several funding opportunities:

  • Grants for collaboration in joint research projects: closed
  • Grants for cooperation in programmes: Centres of Excellence: closed
  • Fellowship grants: closed

Extra Information

Priority areas for 2006 were:

Earth and Life Sciences Polar Research
Medical Sciences Neuroinformatics combined with neurobiology of cognitive processes
Social sciences Internationalisation of law; Internationalisation of law is divided into the following themes:
  • Globalisation, national security and international terrorism
  • Extrajudicial conciliation

Selection

Criteria

Scientific excellence is the main criterion. Criteria differ between the instruments. For more information see the brochure and the different web pages.

Procedure

The applying Dutch scientist submitted a research proposal to NWO by using the electronic submission system (Iris). Scientific committees from NWO and the RFBR evaluated the applications.

Committees

The NWO Commission on Scientific Cooperation with the Russian Federation (CSRF), chaired by Prof. C. Buys (member of the Governing Board of NWO), made the final decision. Advisory committees were different per instrument and per discipline.
