Board Earth and Life Sciences
The Council for Earth and Life Sciences is managed by a board consisting of leading researchers in the typical ALW disciplines, who are working at Dutch universities and other Higher Education Institutes. The ALW Board is responsible for developing and implementing the policy for its research disciplines. The budget of the ALW council helps to make this possible.
The ALW board consists of a chairman, a vice chairman and seven ordinary members. Board members are appointed by the NWO Governing Board (Algemeen Bestuur) at the recommendation of the ALW Board for a three-year term with the possibility of an additional three-year term.
When nominating and appointing members to the ALW Board, a balanced coverage of all disciplines included in Earth and Life Sciences shall be ensured. Nominees shall be active in science and enjoy a good international reputation in the relevant research area.Considering the wide range of disciplines covered by ALW, and the large number of interactions with related scientific disciplines, it is essential that candidates can and want to look beyond the scientific limits of their own discipline.
When proposing a nominee, the ALW Board consults with the management of research schools and other institutes in the scientific disciplines covered by ALW. The ALW Board aims for an equitable geographic coverage of the organisations and institutes from which board members are enlisted. Furthermore, the ALW Board intends to increase the number of women on the Board.
