Objective
In 2000 the board of the Physical Sciences Division launched the research programme Computational Science. It has a 6 to 8 year duration. It builds on the NWO priority programme Massaal Parallel Rekenen that ended in 2002 and on research financed by the foundation for High Performance Computing and Networking. The programme is designed for the fields of astronomy, physics, information science and mathematics. The intention is to collaborate with other disciplines such as chemistry and biology.

Application

It is no longer possible to submit applications. There will be no new subsidy round. The programme runs (until further notice) from 2000 to 2006.

Extra Information

In the subsidy round 2000/2001 a total of 60 proposals were submitted. Physical Sciences has awarded grants to 4 proposals from the category ‘large’ and 9 from the category ‘small’, involving a total amount of 3.8 million euro. The rest of the budget will be spent on general activities within the programme, an annual workshop and the setting up and running of a web site for the exchange, storage, maintenance and documentation of software.
