Investment Subsidy NWO Medium

In Investment Subsidy NWO Medium, subsidies can be requested for the acquisition of equipment and for the setting up of data collections, associated software and bibliographies, if it concerns a clear, nationally accessible contribution to the infrastructure and if this cannot be acquired by means of purchasing.

Who can apply

Full proposals can only be submitted by researchers who have been invited to do so on the basis of their preliminary proposal.

What can be applied for

Subsidy for the purchase of apparatus and setting up data collections, accompanying software and bibliographies; it must concern a significant, nationwide accessible contribution to infrastructure which cannot be acquired by purchase.

When can be applied

• Closing date for submitting preliminary proposals was 10 May 2011, 17:00 hrs
• Closing date for submitting full proposals was 31 August 2011, 17:00 hrs 

Extra Information

If the application has a national dimension applications for between 45,000 and 250,000 euro are also eligible within this Social Sciences subsidy programme.

Data archiving and provision of access

Once the project has been completed, the data collection built up with the investment should be archived in a sustainable manner, disclosed and made available for further scientific research. The application should contain a description of how this will be realised. At the start of the project a data contract will be drwan up between the applicant and DANS that describes under which conditions and when the data will be transferred to DANS or another “trusted digital repository”.

Criteria

The subsidy only covers advanced apparatus and databases that are not part of the regular facilities of an institute. The application must show for which (type of) research the investment is used and why the research is necessary. Other selection criteria are: scientific quality, social and national relevance, financial/technical criteria.

Procedure

The selection of full proposals within Investment Subsidy NWO Medium will be carried out by the board of the NWO division to which the application has been submitted. The NWO divisions follow a procedure in which first external referees are consulted, the applicants are then given the opportunity to respond to the referees’ comments and finally an assessment committee issues a priority proposal to the Divisional Board. The Divisional Board takes the final decision about awarding an application.

Budget

The annual budget amounts approximately to 1,000,000 euro.
