Sea and Coastal Research kick-off
29 September 2009
The ZKO kick-off symposium took place on 3 and 4 September. The symposium was organised by the NWO, in cooperation with NIOZ, and was held at the NIOZ offices on Texel. About 80 people took part.
The objectives of the symposium were twofold:
- To strengthen contact between researchers involved in ZKO research;
- To involve policy-makers and NGOs in the ZKO programme.
The ultimate aim was to shorten the lines of communication as much as possible, within the national marine knowledge field. The programme was extremely varied, with presentations from both scientists and policy-makers. There was also plenty of attention given to the topic of science communication within the ZKO programme, as well as a forum discussion between researchers and policy-makers. From the success of this kick-off came the idea of making the symposium an annual event, to be held in a different location each year.
