Call for proposals: Antimicrobial Resistance in developing countries
Beginning on 1 March, researchers are invited to submit grant proposals for the ZonMw-programme Priority Medicines Antimicrobial Resistance. WOTRO contributes € 390.000 to this call to support research on antimicrobial resistance with relevance for development countries.

EDCTP launches new calls for proposals
European Member States often independently fund projects that fall within the remit of EDCTP (clinical trials, capacity building and networking on HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria in sub-Saharan Africa). The purpose of this grant is for EDCTP to provide funding and added value to these initiatives by acting as the locus of integration for various projects and programmes that have been independently initiated and/or funded by member states.

NACCAP mid-term review
Early 2009 an external mid-term review (MTR) for NACCAP was conducted to gain insight into the progress towards achieving NACCAPs objectives, and specifically into the added value of NACCAP within EDCTP. In addition, the recommendations were made for future steps for the Dutch contribution to EDCTP.

NACCAP/EDCTP satellite meeting: African researchers are missing out on publications and career advancement
During the Fifth EDCTP forum on 13 October 2009 in Arusha, NACCAP and EDCTP organized a satellite meeting on fair ownership of research results to identify needs in order for funders to better align their funding strategies and policies. The attendees of this meeting observed (amongst others) that African researchers are missing out on publications and career advancement, because they fail to claim their ownership. But what are the underlying reasons for that?

Irene Agyepong appointed as holder of the Prince Claus Chair
On the recommendation of the Curatorium of the Prince Claus Chair in Development and Equity, Dr Irene Agyepong member of our NACCAP Programme Commission has been appointed as holder of the Prince Claus Chair. She will hold the chair for two years until the end of August 2010. Dr Agyepong will conduct research into health care in Africa. The Prince Claus Chair is an academic chair in the area of international development held on a rotating basis.
