NWO Strategy Memorandum 2011-2014 is being drawn up

Over the next few months, NWO will be drawing up its new strategy memorandum for the period 2011-2014. This will outline the avenues NWO shall pursue to realise progress and innovation in science.

This autumn NWO shall put forward its proposals to a number of parties involved for their comments. University boards, KNAW, VSNU, VNO-NCW, SenterNovem, TNO, government departments and other organisations can contribute ideas and discuss the proposals on the basis of a discussion memorandum.

This document is entitled Starter NWO strategy: Discussion memorandum for external consultation about the NWO strategy 2011-2014. The current strategy memorandum, Science valued!, is still valid until 2010.

Key aspects of discussion memorandum for the new NWO Strategy 2011-2014

• Maintain talent policy, with a focus on target groups, mobility and career progression
• More space for senior researchers and groundbreaking research in the open competition
• Assess the need and the opportunities for facilitating interdisciplinary research
• Further strengthen the cooperation between NWO institutes and universities
• Realise and update the national roadmap for infrastructure
• Fewer NWO themes, with more room for specific programmes with third parties
• Strengthen the impact of research funded by facilitating knowledge utilisation
• Strengthen international cooperation in Europe and with emerging science countries
• Distribute extra research resources for sector plans via NWO by means of competition
• Forum function: a systematic and permanent interaction with the scientific world
