European Young Investigators Awards (EURYI)

European Young Investigators (EURYI)

The European Young Investigator was a programme of the European Science Foundation (ESF) with the participation of 21 scientific organisations from 16 European countries. NWO was the participant from the Netherlands.

Only excellent researchers where awarded and encouraged with the EURYI grants. The researchers had to have already built up an impressive CV and publications and potentially be at the top of their field of research.

The success rate was low, about 3 per cent, mostly due to the large number of applications. EURYI is meant to help build the European Research Area: young researchers work for the European science and  shape the next generation of top scientists in Europe. The NWO candidates managed to receive 3 of the total of  20 awards in the last submission round, an excellent score. In addition, a transferred award from the DFG was added at a later stage. In the third round 5 NWO candidates received the award, the round before that 3 and in the first round 4 NWO candidates received the award. In total the Netherlands has received 16 of the total number of 95 awards from 4 submission rounds.
