Researchers, practitioners and policy makers came together at the WOTRO Research Day
8 april 2009
On April 7th 2009, at the WOTRO Research Day, WOTRO Science for Global Development presented itself to its constituencies. 120 researchers, practitioners and policymakers gathered in the Academy Building in Utrecht to learn about the way WOTRO tries to stimulate and promote science for development. But also to get to know one and another, to share experiences and to get a good idea of the types of research WOTRO funds.
The emphasis of the programme shifted during the day, from issues of policy and strategy in research funding to the ins and outs of research in practice.
The programme provided a variety of activities:
- presentations on the “WOTRO policy in practice”,
- workshops to enhance professionalism,
- (poster) presentations to share research results,
- a visionary speech by trend watcher Adjiedj Bakas on the challenges for global development
Researcher Aad Kessler and his research team received the WOTRO Communication Award for their innovative communication strategy towards policy-makers: Using video and computer games for vertical scaling-up of Sustainable Land Management in the highlands of Kenya and Tanzania. It was an inspiring day. We hope to welcome you next year at the WOTRO Research Day 2010!
