Aad Kessler winner WOTRO communication award

At the occasion of the WOTRO Research Day, April 7th 2009, researcher Aad Kessler and his research team received the WOTRO Communication Award for their innovative communication strategy towards policy-makers: Using video and computer games for vertical scaling-up of Sustainable Land Management in the highlands of Kenya and Tanzania. The communication award is intended to encourage interaction between science and society and to promote WOTRO research in the media and among stakeholders. The award amounts 5,000 Euro.

The communication activity had to be based on (previous or current) WOTRO-funded research. Participants of a WOTRO-funded project were invited to submit a summary describing the communication activity.
The activity was evaluated for:
- quality (communicative value, originality, adequacy);
- relevance and probable impact;
- added value for communicating WOTRO or science for development in general.
A selection panel, coordinated by the communication department of WOTRO Science for Global Development, assessed the proposals and selected the most interesting proposal.
