WOTRO Communication Award
26 January 2009
We kindly invite all WOTRO-financed researchers to compete in the contest for the best research communication activity. WOTRO would like to award a communication activity that is highly original in raising awareness for a specific scientific WOTRO project towards non-scientific stakeholders (including end-users, practitioners/service organisations, policy makers) and/or the general public. The award amounts 5,000 Euro and can be used for any research communication activity.
Background
The WOTRO communication award is intended to encourage interaction between science and society and to promote WOTRO research in the media and among stakeholders.
How to apply
The communication activity should be based on (previous or current) WOTRO-funded research. Participants of a WOTRO-funded project are invited to submit a summary describing the communication activity with a deadline of 16 March 2009. This should include:
- A summary of the research project (maximum 100 words, please indicate the project number);
- The goal of the communication activity and (expected) outcome (maximum 200 words);
- A description of the target group(s), including the reason why the chosen communication approach is suitable for the target group(s) (maximum 300 words)
- A description of the communication activity (including a description of the tool for example debate, article policy brief, presentation, instruction and information material, and trainings or courses (not for university teaching), website, audio visible communication) (maximum 500 words). Include, if possible, the communication product (publication, programme, video etc).
Please note that communication activities that took place after September 2007 are eligible for granting.
Criteria
The product will be evaluated for:
- quality (communicative value, originality, adequacy);
- relevance and probable impact;
- added value for communicating WOTRO or science for development in general.
Procedure
A selection panel, coordinated by the communication department of WOTRO Science for Global Development, will assess the proposals and will select the three most interesting proposals. The WOTRO Board decides on the grant. The award winner will be announced at the WOTRO researchers day on 7 April 2009.
