Duality between two worlds
Duality theory is a fundamental tool in mathematics that ties together algebraic and geometric concepts. In the foundations of computer science this same duality lies at the heart of the relationship between specification languages and state space models of computation. Current problems in the two worlds are closely related but are often studied separately.

Mai Gehrke studeerde en promoveerde (1987) in de wiskunde aan de Universiteit van Houston in de Verenigde Staten. Vanaf 2000 was zij professor aan het wiskundig instituut van de New Mexico State University. Sinds 2007 bekleedt ze de positie van hoogleraar Algebra bij het IMAPP (Institute for Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics) van de Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen.
