PRIOMEDCHILD: Coordination of Research on Priority Medicines for Children

Objective

Priority Medicines For Children (PRIOMEDCHILD) is a European partnership consisting of 10 national research funding organizations. PRIOMEDCHILD aims to boost the development of adequate medicines for children. The different European research funding organisations in PRIOMEDCHILD are committed to pooling resources and contribute to the strengthening of the European Research Area for paediatric medicine research and development by:

  • Benchmarking national programmes and exchanging expertise
  • Mapping regulatory, social and ethical framework conditions for paediatric medicine research
  • Exploring opportunities for research cooperation with the pharmaceutical industry, private research funding organisations, patient organisations and other stakeholders
  • Establishing a common European research agenda on medicines for children after priority setting with the support of all major stakeholders. This is expected to lead to a joint call for proposals end 2009.
The partners of PRIOMEDCHILD are from the following European member states: Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Letvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Germany participates in PRIOMEDCHILD as affiliated partner.

Application

Who can apply

Project ideas can only be taken into consideration if they are submitted by a consortium made up of at least three different collaborating national groups, two of which are from countries that financially support the PRIOMEDCHILD call (NL, EE, FI, FR, UK, IT, LV, PL). The maximum permitted number of research groups in a consortium is eight. Research groups from countries other than those stated above may participate in a consortium if they possess the necessary funds for this. Projects are funded for a period of 36 months. Research groups from higher education institutes, non-university public research institutes, hospitals, parent-child organisations and commercial companies can submit a proposal. However for each country National Admission Criteria have been set.

Public-private partnership is encouraged but the rules concerning the funding of private partners differ per member state. You are advised to contact your national representative about this whose contact details are stated on PRIOMEDCHILD website: http://www.priomedchild.eu/index.php?id=9242.

Themes for which a grant can be requested The research focuses on approved drugs and can be divided into two main themes:

  • Development or use of innovative methodology in research into medicines for children
  • Development of paediatric doses and the route of administration of these.
