3 juli 2008

Early June 2007 the 'Netherlands Platform for Global Health Policy and Health Systems Research' (Platform) has presented its final advice about the objectives, content, planning and subsidy-instrument for an 8.5 million euros research programme on global health policy and health systems research to the funding institutions: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs /DGIS and WOTRO Science for Development.

The strategic theme of the research programme is 'equitable access to quality health systems' and the programme will specifically target the implementation of the Millenium Development Goals in low-income countries (LICs).

The goals of the research programme are to:

  • support to better health by conducting research aiming to strengthening health systems in LICs;
  • support to strengthening the research capacity in LICs;
  • support to strengthening collaboration in the Dutch research and knowledge community in order to enhance utilization of the Dutch research capacity in LICs.

A first call is expected to be launched by WOTRO Science for Development in September 2008. The Platform will organise an information meeting for all interested parties (researchers, ngo's etc.) around the time of publication.
