EuroMEMBRANE: Membrane Architecture and Dynamics

Following agreement with funding organisations in Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey, the European Science Foundation is launching a Call for Outline Proposals for Collaborative Research Projects (CRPs) to be undertaken within the EUROCORES Programme EuroMEMBRANE. EuroMEMBRANE will run for 3-4 years and it includes national research funding, as well as support for networking and dissemination activities provided by the ESF. The Programme aims to support high quality multidisciplinary research.

The EuroMEMBRANE programme has the following scientific objectives:

The aim of this EUROCORES Programme on EuroMEMBRANE is to answer long-standing questions in membrane biology using cutting-edge technologies. These will address functional problems in a quantitative manner bringing together experimental tools with theoretical approaches. There will be a special emphasis on lipid-lipid and (glyco)lipid-protein interactions in the plane of the membrane in health and disease. Using various model organisms would allow cross-species comparison and bring an evolutionary perspective to biomembrane studies. This type of research requires a strong interdisciplinary collaboration that covers biological, chemical, physical and computational aspects of membranology over a broad dynamic range of time and length.

Who can apply

Het doen van subsidieaanvragen staat open voor onderzoekers van Nederlandse universiteiten, NWO- en KNAW-instituten en het Nederlands Kanker Instituut.
Hoogleraren, universitair (hoofd)docenten en andere onderzoekers kunnen indienen als zij een dienstverband hebben voor tenminste de looptijd van het aanvraagproces en het onderzoek waarvoor de subsidie wordt aangevraagd.
Per individuele Nederlandse aanvrager mag slechts 1 voorstel worden ingediend.

What can be applied for

De maximumbijdrage van NWO voor een EuroMEMBRANE-(deel)project is € 222.000. De aanvraag kan twee soorten personeelsbudget bevatten: promovendi en postdocs. Gebaseerd op de geschatte VSNU tarieven voor 2008/2009 zijn de tarieven voor personeel als volgt:

• Promovendi: 183.000
• Postdoc 1 jaar: 59.000
• Postdoc 2 jaar: 119.000
• Postdoc 3 jaar: 180.000

Materiële kredieten dienen te worden gespecificeerd en daarvoor geldt een maximum bijdrage van € 30.000 voor een promovendi gedurende de looptijd van 4 jaar en voor een post-doc is een maximum- bijdrage van € 10.000 per jaar vastgesteld (max 3 jaar).

When can be applied

De deadline voor het indienen van outline proposals bij de ESF was op 22 mei 2008, 12.00 uur. De deadline voor het indienen van uitgewerkte aanvragen ligt begin september 2008.
