Process on a Chip

Calls

The basic idea of Process on a Chip (PoaC) is that the full production process of high-grade compounds can be executed on one chip, including the operational logic and measurement facilities. In order to realise that, an integrated circuit must be made (in silicon or synthetic fibre) with microchannels, reaction nodes, steps for characterisation and reprocessing, allowing chemical reactions to be produced on a very small scale and with unprecedented precision.
PoaC focuses on combining a number of disciplinary research fields and aims by means of fundamental research to make visible and foster new chances for industrial developments. For this, research within PoaC must have both the highest scientific quality and the greatest innovative industrial relevance.
The PoaC programme consists of three clusters, each of which centres on a key challenge of the research:

  • Basic expertise
  • Analysis on a chip
  • Synthesis on a chip

The deadline for the PoaC call for pre-proposals 2007 was 18 September 2007. The deadline for full-proposals is 9 January 2008. A submitted full-proposal that is not based on a pre-proposal submitted on or before 18 September 2007 will not be taken into consideration.
