Scientific meeting | NWO-theme Responsible Innovation
“Ethical and societal aspects of science and technology”

Wednesday 18 November 2009, Nemo, Amsterdam
Register now by filling in the online form!

Numerous projects have been started within the thematic research programme Responsible Innovation (MVI). Subjects of these projects range from the electronic patient database to surveillance cameras in nightlife areas and military network technologies. Areas of concern include safety, health, privacy, responsibility and research output. As researchers from all engaged disciplines work together with technology developers and users, the research results are also used in technology development.

Questions for discussion during the first annual meeting of the SRI theme include:
· What is the current status of research into ethical and social aspects of technological developments?

· Which developments will become topical in the near future?
· Why is this research important and what contribution can SRI make?

· How can society benefit from the research results?

The event, which will start at 10.00 a.m. (registration from 9.30 a.m.) , will be opened by a key-note presentation of prof.dr. Armin Grunwald (chairman of the Advisory Board). During the day, there will be be short (10 minute) presentations by MVI project leaders, and workshops will be offered on typical MVI topics ('make' perspective, multidisciplinarity, role of ethics) by members of the Advisory Board and MVI project leaders. Furtermore, all 16 projects will give poster presentations at an information market, which will also give information on the second call for proposals. The event will be closed with a panel discussion on MVI and innovation (to be confirmed) and drinks at 4.45 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
