NWO-thema Conflict en veiligheid
Door globalisering, transnationale migratie en mobiliteit ontstaat een grotere diversiteit in samenlevingen. Als gevolg hiervan treden vaak scherpe confrontaties op die samenhangen met culturele, etnische, religieuze, klasse- en genderverschillen. Onderzoek binnen het thema Conflict en Veiligheid zal zich richten op daaruit voortkomende vraagstellingen van grote maatschappelijke urgentie.

NIOD lanceert website over antisemitisme in Nederland
Op 19 september is de projectwebsite dutchantisemitism.nl gelanceerd. Deze website hoort bij het NWO-project 'De dynamiek van hedendaags antisemitisme in een wereldwijde context. "De Jood" als framing model in Nederland, Marokko, Polen en Turkije' dat is ondergebracht bij het NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies.

5-6 May: Launch Conference - Assessing the Impact of the International Criminal Court
The anticipated closing of the ad hoc and hybrid tribunals, combined with the expanding jurisdiction and practice of the International Criminal Court, offers an important opportunity to step back and critically assess the social and legal impact of the Court's prosecutions and investigations on local populations and jurisdictions. This conference is related the theme of "Post-Conflict Justice and Local Ownership", which is part of the thematic NWO research on Conflict and Security. Read more
Verslag bijeenkomst Conflict en Veiligheid op 27 januari 2011 te Utrecht
Op 27 januari kwamen in Utrecht de projectleiders van het NWO-programma Conflict & Veiligheid bijeen om presentaties te geven over de voortgang van hun onderzoeksprojecten. Aanwezig waren ook de leden van de themacommissie, vertegenwoordigers van de Maatschappelijk Advies Raad (MAR) van Conflict & Veiligheid en medewerkers van NWO Maatschappij- en Gedragswetenschappen. Verder had bijna ieder onderzoeksproject ten minste een uitvoerder afgevaardigd.

Website Recht in de Multiculturele Samenleving
Vanuit het Conflict en Veiligheid-onderzoeksprogramma 'Herijking van de politieke filosofie: recht doen aan dynamiek en hybride identificaties is een website opgezet voor mensen die meer te weten willen komen over het thema van het onderzoeksprogramma. Behalve informatie over het onderzoeksprogramma, lezingen, publicaties en handige links' naar andere websites, biedt de website ook een blog waarin de betrokken onderzoekers regelmatig schrijven over hun bevindingen met betrekking tot multiculturaliteit.

Bijeenkomst voortgang projecten Conflict en Veiligheid
27 januari 2011 12.30 uur - 17.45 uur, Utrecht
Tijdens de bijeenkomst worden presentaties gegeven van de projecten met als doel kennisuitwisseling en discussie over de gehanteerde, theorieën, benaderingswijzen, modellen en resultaten. De discussieleiders presenteren in een plenaire sessie hun analyse van de verschillen en overeenkomsten in benaderingswijzen. Is er zoiets mogelijk als een algemene theorie van conflicten? Read More
16 Fast Track research projects on conflict awarded
NWO awarded 16 from the 47 proposals submitted for Fast Track research projects into emerging, active, escalating or de-escalating conflicts, under the theme Conflict and Security. In view of the high quality of the proposals submitted, the committee decided to award more proposals than originally foreseen: 3 replacement subsidies and 13 postdoc positions. Seven CoCooN Integrated Projects awarded
The first call of the CoCooN programme – Conflict and Cooperation over Natural Resources in Developing Countries – has resulted in the awarding of seven Integrated Projects. Each of the awarded project demonstrates integration and synergy of three perspectives: a clear development perspective, high-quality knowledge and research, and capacity building. All with the same purpose, to adequately manage, resolve and learn from conflicts over natural resources. Read More
New call for Fast Track Research into Conflict
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research has launched a second call for proposals within the theme Conflict and Security. The focus of this call is on Fast Track Research into emerging, active, escalating or de-escalating conflict. Researchers may apply for funding to do research while the conflict is 'active' or suddenly transforming. Read More
| The Cocoon programme experiments with a new way of working | |

Water, energy and other natural resources are scarce. How can we prevent the outbreak of violent conflicts around the world – particularly when these resources are becoming even more limited due to climate change? This is one of the key questions of the new Cocoon programme. Professor of Social Geography Ton Dietz (University of Amsterdam) is chairman of the steering committee and enthusiastic about this programme which turns the ordinary NWO working method upside down. Dietz: 'Cocoon confronts the Netherlands Organisation of Scientific Research (NWO) with new partners and new ways of working.' |

Successful launch of new 'Post-Conflict Justice and Local Ownership' Event Series
On 8 October 2009, the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies launched its ‘Post-Conflict Justice and Local Ownership' Event series, with a two expert lectures on human rights and transitional justice in Colombia, in collaboration with the Embassy of Colombia. This new Event series is designed to enhance dialogue between international and domestic actors on the goals and 'local' effects of justice and the empowerment of domestic legal systems. Read More
