Societal Top Institutes (STI's)

The Societal Top Institute (STI) is a new and powerful instrument where knowledge is developed at a high level and applied to a societally important theme. An STI, a virtual institute, links up excellent research with the public and private stakeholders. By definition, an STI is an instrument that is used very sparingly and consequently has a high degree of exclusivity. The Minister for Education, Culture and Science awarded four institutes the status of STI in preparation:

For each of these institutes a start capital of M€ 5 was made available via NWO/MaGW. Over the next few years these STIs will be expanded to strengthen their directive function.
