The NWO-funded CATCH programme aims at giving the general public new ways to access to the Dutch Cultural Heritage, and at providing collection managers with new tools and methods to enrich, access and show their collections. CATCH is divided in several sub-projects, each of them collaborating with a Cultural Heritage institution and focusing on a specific aspect of the general goal, for example: cross-collection and cross-vocabulary access to the content personalized services on museum web sites faster and more complete access to pictures in cultural archives through digital analysis
Our project, named CHOICE, collaborates with the Dutch national audiovisual archives, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, and focuses on semantic annotation of documents (television broadcasts), by means of Natural Language Processing and Semantic Web techniques applied to sets of texts related to the broadcasts (TV-guides, websites, etc.). Today, the focus will be on "Television archives and the Semantic Web" with two distinguished guests from the UK.
