ESF EUROCORES
4-D Topography Evolution in Europe: Uplift, Subsidence and Sea Level Change - The Geoscience of Coupled Deep Earth - Surface Processes (TOPO-EUROPE)
| Key target | : | Internationalisation, Cooperation |
| Secretariat | : | ALW |
| Apply | : | No, a new round is (still) uncertain |
EUROCORES stands for ‘ESF European Collaborative Research Scheme´, a grant scheme managed by the European Science Foundation (ESF). The ESF has 78 members organisations from 30 different countries: academies, research organisations and research funding agencies, including NWO.
Within the EUROCORES programme TOPOEUROPE four research topics have been defined:
- Monitoring the Earth System operating on a wide range of special and temporal scales
- Imaging and characterising the deep earth
- Dynamic topography reconstruction
- Process modelling and validation
Rationale of this programme and more information is available on the ESF website www.esf.org./topoeurope
The research council for Earth. And Lifesciences considers this programme as a contribution to the NWO theme Sustainable Earth and their policy line for Geodynamics, Topography and Geohazards.
Extra Information
Information on how to apply for his TOPO-EUROPE programme is available on the ESF website www.esf.org./topoeurope
General remarks
NWO/ALW will participate in TOPO-EUROPE with a max. of 7 – 8 individual projects. NWO/ALW will only fund individual projects that are of top-quality (receiving judgment “excellent”). NWO/ALW will only fund the NL-part of Collaborative Research Projects when other funding agencies, involved in this CRP, all fund their national individual project(s) as well. NWO/ALW will fund the projects in the Netherlands according to national funding conditions. The costs of an individual project amounts to approximately € 210,000 (salary of PhD-student for 4 years or salary of post doc position for 3 years, including a bench fee for the total period of around € 10,000/y)
Specific Requirements
Criteria for eligibility, funding criteria etc. are the same as those valid for the “ALW Open programme” The guidelines for this programme are to be found at http://www.nwo.nl/ subsidiewijzer.nsf/pages/NWOP_5N7GAQ However for this programme a Dutch researcher may apply once as a programma leader and once as a programme participant
Procedure
The review procedure is handled by the ESF. Eventually the NWO research council for Earth- and Lifesciences will decide upon the projects to be funded. This decision will be based on the priority rating received from the ESF.
