Challenges of Marine Coring Research (EuroMARC)

In deze EUROCORES werken de volgende 11 funding agencies samen: België, Frankrijk, Duitsland, Groot-Brittannië, Ierland, Italië, Noorwegen, Oostenrijk, Portugal, Spanje, Zwitserland en Nederland.

De onderwerpen zijn:

1. Earth’s Surface Environmental Change, Processes and Effects
   • Ocean climate dynamics and impacts on continental climates
   • Arctic and Antarctic Oceans: Control of climate and ocean circulation
   • Ocean biogeochemistry and the carbon cycle
   • Gas hydrates
2. The Deep Biosphere & Sub-Seafloor Ocean
   • Deep biosphere
3. Solid Earth Cycles & Geodynamics
   • Geodynamo and the Earth’s magnetic field
   • Ocean seismic arrays and oceanic sub-surface observatories
   • Ocean ridge processes
   • Seismogenic zone, subduction, mountain building and erosion
   • Deformation of the continents: Volcanic and non-volcanic rifted margins

Wanneer kan aangevraagd worden

De termijn voor vooraanmeldingen is op 12 maart 2006 gesloten. Geselecteerde aanvragen konden tot 27 juni 2006 een full proposal indienen.

Criteria

Conditions for NWO funding

• Total maximum available funding 1000 k€
• Maximum 350 k€ contribution per project based on 3 funded projects
• Fixed salary fee of 172 k€ for Phd 4 yrs or Postdoc 3 yrs or also possible Postdoc 2 yrs 116 k€
• Fixed salary includes a benchfee for congres/symposia travel and overheads, so overheads cannot be applied for
• Equipment investment above 25 k€ up to max 110 k€ requires 25% matching by the scientists institute
• Consumables maximum 28.600 € or 9.100 € per year for postdoc.
• Maximum 1 person position per project funded
• Optional to spend maximum contribution on shiptime/investment and consumables without PhD or Postdoc.
• For shiptime RV Pelagia is prefered ship, contributions from other consortium members are welcome
• 1 sailing day for Pelagia on average costs 8000 € per day
• Negotiations about shiptime and technical support are to be organised through Royal NIOZ, if necessary shiptime can be exchanged though OFEG

Procedure

Eind 2006 adviseert een door de ESF ingesteld Review Panel over de te honoreren projecten waarna de funding agencies begin 2007 na onderling overleg in het Management Committee over honorering zullen besluiten.
