Cooperation
As from 2007 WOTRO will focus on funding
high-quality research into developmental problems. Until now WOTRO has
specialised in tropical research. In addition WOTRO wants to strengthen
cooperation with strategic partners, such as the Dutch government, development
organisations and other (international) research funders.
WOTRO wants to contribute to finding solutions to local developmental problems. The aim is to do so together with societal parties and local researchers, and by the effective use of research findings.
Themes and cross-disciplinary research
In its strategy
plan WOTRO formulates pioneering research themes that have global relevance: Poverty and Hunger, Global Relations, Global Health and Health Systems,
Sustainable Environment. These research themes are in line with the United
Nations’ Millennium Development Goals.
WOTRO continues to finance free and innovative research so as to encourage understanding of developmental issues and offer researchers a continuing opportunity for innovation.
The new WOTRO strategy originated after wide consultation and discussion with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dutch and foreign researchers and Non-Governmental Organisations.
