Objective

NanoSci-ERA (www.nanoscience-europe.org) is a consortium of 12 countries and 17 research organisations that aims to achieve an integration of national research communities and to create new trans-European cooperation between (young) talented scientists.

The Dutch partners in NanoSci-ERA are the FOM foundation and the technology foundation STW. The other partners are organisations from Germany, Finland, Poland, Slovakia, Israel, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France and the UK.

To achieve the consortium’s goal a Call for Proposals has been launched and the research programme NanoSci-ERA is being executed. The thematic scope of the Call is limited to “the generation of new knowledge on the fabrication, study or control and manipulation of individual nanoscale objects”.

Application

When can be applied

The application procedure consists of two stages:

  1. Letter of Intent: project application of 2 pages max. Deadline 19 May 2006.
  2. Full Proposal: fully worked-up project application. Deadline 8 September 2006.

Procedure

The NanoSci-ERA consortium will publish the successful applications in November 2006. The approved projects will start on 1 January 2007. The consortium is expected to sponsor between 10 and 15 European project applications.

Budget

The partner countries have created a ‘common pot’ that will be used to finance scientific projects. This distinguishes NanoSci-ERA from EUROCORES and ERA-NET programmes. The available budget of the NanoSci-ERA programme is around 9 Million euro.
