Objective

Under the auspices of ERA-NET NORFACE, New Opportunities for Research Funding Agency Co-operation in Europe – A Strategy for Social Sciences, a large transnational research programme was recently launched in the area of migration. NORFACE is a strategic partnership of Funding Agencies from 13 countries in the area of social and behavioural sciences. NORFACE focuses on research-driven cooperation, which leads to two joint, transnational research programmes with a Full Common Pot.

The theme of the programme is ‘Migration in Europe: Social, Economic, Cultural and Policy Dynamics’. The text has been compiled by an International Expert Group under the chairmanship of Professor Amélie Mummendey.

Application

Who can apply

Researchers with diverse disciplinary backgrounds can submit research proposals within this programme. The three programme lines – ‘Migration – Causes and Consequences’, ‘Integration’ and ‘Cohesion and Conflict’ – provide good perspectives for carrying out research that tests and develops theories. Multidisciplinary research has a good chance of succeeding.

What can be applied for

Research proposals from teams of at least three cooperating countries with a proposed budget of between € 0.5 mln and € 4 mln over a maximum period of four years, can be submitted.

When can be applied

The closing date for submitting preproposals was 10 September 2008.

Detailed information about the target groups, procedures and guidelines can be found in the Pilot Programme and the Specification for the Seminar Series. Both Specifications can be downloaded from the NORFACE website.

Committees

A Selection Committee will be appointed for each type of grant.

Budget

For the programme ‘Migration in Europe’ the joint NORFACE partners / Funding Agencies have set aside a sum of € 23 mln.
