NWO-Talent Classes

The NWO-Talent Classes are, like the NWO-Talent Days, days during which young researchers can make contacts and acquire skills that a scientist does not usually pick up during his training, such as networking, presentations for the media and successful publishing. 

The Talent Classes are an intensive one day workshop. NWO organizes these days six times a year. The evaluation of previous years shows that participants are enthusiastic about and satisfied with the knowledge and skills they acquired. 

What is a NWO Talent Class?

A Talent Class is based on one of the workshops of the Talent Days. The Talent Classes have the following attributes:

• professional workshop leaders
• a day programme filled with of interaction, presentations, challenging exercises and tasks
• eye-openers, useful tips and personal feedback

For whom?

All young researchers, Ph.D. and post-doc, are allowed to register for one Talent Class per day. This Talent Class lasts the whole day. However, you can register for more Talent Classes on different days.

When?

Subjects

The Talent Classes are based on the workshops of the NWO-Talent Days. The subjects are listed below. Each day of Talent Classes, we offer four of these workshops.

The Talent Classes are usually held in Dutch, unless stated otherwise. If you are not sufficiently competent in Dutch but would still like to participate in one of the Talent Classes, please inform us by email (verdieping@nwo.nl). In the email state your name, email address and the Talent Class you would like to participate in. We will do our best to accommodate you.

Costs

The registration fee for the NWO-Talent Classes is € 95,-.

Registration procedure

1. Fill in the registration form on this website and indicate which workshop you would like to attend
   
2. Make a print of the direct debit form for this workshop, fill it in and send it to NWO by mail
   
3. a. If we can accept your registration, we will send you a confirmation within two weeks. Your registration is then definite. The registration fee will be debited from your bank account in the week of the Talent Classes. You will receive an email with more information about homework, location and programme on a later date
   
   b. If we have reached the maximum number of participants for the workshop, we will send you a notification within two weeks

When is your participation confirmed?

Please note that your registration for and participation in this Talent Class is only confirmed if we receive both your registration form and direct debit form on time. We will accept registrations in the order in which we'll receive the direct debit forms. In the unlikely event of overbooking we reserve the right to cancel participations. When we reach the maximum number of participants for a workshop, we will unable registration for that Talent Class. Of course we will destroy your direct debit form if we are inable to accept your registration.

We will unable the opportunity to register and to download the direct debit form after we have received the maximum number of direct debit forms. It is possible that we have to close a workshop while your form is still in the mail. In that case your registration will be cancelled.

The registration fee cannot be returned in the event of cancellation by the participant. If you are not able to attend, you can send a replacement. He/she will have to submit the homework assignment on time.  If you do not submit your homework, you will not be allowed to participate in the workshop, and you will forfeit your registration fee. Similarly, if you do not show up at the workshop, for any reason, you will forfeit your registration fee.

For the Funding workshop, participants will have to make an assessment of eachother's proposals. We give primacy to people working in the same area of research as other participants. It is therefore possible, that we receive your registration and direct debit form in time, but are unable to place you. Of course we won't charge you in that case.

Homework!

To get the most out of the material you will need to prepare yourself. For most Talent Classes you will need to submit work in advance to the trainer. If the homework has not been received on time, your registration will be cancelled, but you do have to pay the registration fee.
