Explanation about the banner above the EuroDYNA programme page

1 December 2005

There are some questions about the 'banner', the image above this programme website.

The picure, showing the construction of a high velocity railway, taken from the Rotterdam Zoo 'Blijdorp', shows:

"Some multimeric structures with domains extending into the medium, positioned along and around a double helix, not far from a repetitive pattern of construction elements, fixing and anchoring transport structures".

Several Dutch research groups rose to international fame by their skills regarding 'imaging': visualisation and tracking of minute molecular structures and structural changes, sometimes even within a still living cell. The estrangeing effect from many of their images, in bright fluorescent colours, has been approached in an unorthodox way.

The subject of the research programme EuroDYNA, as has been made clear above, is only symbolically depicted by the image selected.
