Cooperation China (NSFC)

NWO has a cooperation agreement with the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in Beijing.The programme gives Chinese researchers the opportunity of a short stay in the Netherlands and Dutch researchers the chance to visit China. The programme also helps to fund joint seminars held in China or the Netherlands.

The aim of this cooperation programme is to promote contact between Dutch and Chinese researchers in the natural sciences (i.e. all sciences except the social sciences and the humanities).

Who can apply

Researchers with a permanent contract of employment at one of the Dutch universities, KNAW institutes or NWO research institutes, NKI or MPI Nijmegen. The fields of study referred to above are elegible.

What can be applied for

International travel costs, and local travel and subsistence costs for a stay in China of between 1 and 3 months can be applied for. For a bilateral joint seminar a contribution to the costs can be requested.

When can be applied

Proposals can be submitted throughout the year. The processing time is maximum 6 months.

Extra Information

NSFC sets the explicit condition that a visit for a short stay in China must take place in the context of a research programme receiving a grant from NSFC. Researchers must have established contact with researchers from the host organisation in advance and be able to produce an invitation from the host organisation to participate in joint research.

Criteria

Exchange of Researchers

• scientific quality, originality and relevance;
• quality of the research teams.

Bilateral joint seminars

• scientific relevance;
• quality of the researchers involved;
• effects of the seminar on e.g. the cooperation between Dutch and Chinese researchers.

A further criterion is that the visit should promote scientific cooperation between the two countries.

Applications will be financed from the budget 2012 for visitors travel grants of 370.000 euro.
