Investment Subsidy NWO Medium

For medium-sized investments in scientific apparatus the NWO Division for Earth and Life Sciences every year provides investment grants as part of NWO Medium, with the purpose of stimulating the investment policy of research institutes.

Who can apply

The following knowledge institutions may submit proposals:

• a. Dutch universities;
• b. NWO institutes (incl. the Dutch-Belgian Beamline at ESRF in Grenoble);
• c. academic libraries;
• d. Netherlands Cancer Institute;
• e. Max Planck Institute for psycholinguistics in Nijmegen.

Due to the agreements between NWO and KNAW, the KNAW institutes may not submit proposals for Investment Subsidy NWO Medium.

What can be applied for

Grants for scientific apparatus with a contribution by NWO ranging between 110,000 and 1,500,000 euro (VAT included). Included are initial personnel costs for setting up databases and digitising the bibliographical apparatus in case these cannot be purchased. A minimal investment of 25 percent by the applicant is required.

Grants for scientific apparatus less than 110,000 euro can be applied for through project applications in e.g. the Open Programme of the NWO Division for Earth and Life Sciences.

Extra Information

Applications can only be submitted electronically through NWO's Iris system.  

If a subsidy is granted, recipients are committed to do a number of things in return, such as reporting and providing information to the public. Further particulars are available from your contact. Applications for interdisciplinary programmes should be discussed in advance with your contact.

Procedure

In September/October the applications will be evaluated through the peer review procedure that is also used in the Open Programme. In mid-November the applicant will be given the opportunity to reply to the referee reports about his application. In December the Apparatus Committee of the Division for Earth and Life Sciences will deliver its advice to the Divisional Board, who will decide in January.

About 1.5 million euro per annual subsidy round.
