| Apply | : | Yes, but at a later stage |
This form of grant is targeted at researchers who have completed their doctorates and already spent some years conducting post-doctoral research, thereby demonstrating the ability to generate new ideas and bring them independently to fruition. They will be given the opportunity to develop their own innovative lines of research and themselves to appoint one or more researchers to assist them in the task.
Who can apply
Researchers who have completed their doctorates with a maximum of 8 years (calculated from the date on which the doctorate was formally awarded to the deadline for the relevant round of Vidi grant applications). From 1 January 2009 professors may compete for Vidi funding.
Starting in 2009, there are a number of changes in the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme. One of these is the change in the Vidi deadline from January to March. Because of the possible impact of this two-month postponement of the Vidi deadline on the academic careers of researchers who are thereby disqualified from applying for a Vidi grant, NWO has created a transitional arrangement for researchers who had expected to be able to submit a Vidi application in January 2009 and can now no longer do so. The transitional arrangement is a one-off extension of the career deadline of 8 years since the award of the doctorate to 8 years and 2 months for Vidi applicants in the relevant round. This means that researchers who received their doctorates on or after 3 January 2001 will now be eligible to apply for Vidi grants in the submission period ending on 3 March 2009. This transitional arrangement has been created in the context of the introduction of the new grant system and will apply only to the Vidi round being held in 2009.
